ARCA RE/MAX Series
About the ARCA RE/MAX Series

Venturini Takes Career First
It was a long time coming, but on Sunday afternoon at Salem Speedway Billy Venturini steered the family-owned No. 25 Hamptons Luxury Homes-Hawk Saw Blades Chevrolet into victory lane.

Venturini, in his 134th career ARCA RE/MAX Series start, spoiled veteran Ken Schrader's last lap charge to win the thrilling Kentuckiana Ford Dealers 200 on April 23.

"We were ahead of a lot of wrecks and stayed out of trouble,"says Venturini, who led 95 laps. "The car was awesome, the team's great, and we just ran the hell out of it."

Venturini had a 15-length lead with just five laps remaining before lapped traffic allowed Schrader to close the margin to a few feet.

"We had the race won easily," Venturini says. "Then lapped traffic wouldn't get out of the way."

Sparks flew when Venturini scraped the turn three and four wall as he shot by several lapped cars with Schrader in hot pursuit. With torn fenders and a tire failing, Venturini still managed to hold off Schrader for the well-earned victory.

Schrader, competing in his fourth of five events of the weekend, settled for second just .217 seconds away from the winner's rear bumper.

Four-time Daytona ARCA 200 winner Bobby Gerhart finished third with Phil Bozell, driving for Hagans Racing, taking fourth. Rounding out the top five was 18-year-old Josh Allison.

Many of the weekend's most promising entries ended their day early when the leaders piled up on a lap 23 restart. The front stretch incident involved frontrunners Mario Gosselin, TJ Bell, Dexter Bean, Brian Keselowski and Ken Weaver as well as seven-time series champion Frank Kimmel.

"Not the finish we were looking for,"Kimmel says. "We got caught up in someone else's wreck."
